2024 Nation's Ripe Corn Gathering

From LaNita Adams:

What: Fall Gathering (Ripe Corn Friendship Gathering)
When: September 13,14,15
Where: Bean Pot Campground in Crossville TN
Other: There are plenty of tent and RV sites at this time. Please call them and speak to our sister Lavada Vance. Let her set you up. Be sure to say you are with OHCD. I think it's $3.00 for the use of the facilities.

The campground has gone through some great renovations. There's an awesome playground (bring the young ones... they are our future), a fishing pond and a clubhouse where we can meet and cook etc.

Reminders:

IF YOU HAVE A JOB please bring the implements needed to do your job.

Fire Tender / Starter - 7 sticks of wood for the Sacred Fire. (Wolf Spirit is working on finding the wood but he is in Tullahoma TN on Training for the next 4 weeks. Not sure when he'll find the time)

Pipe Bearer: A pipe (the Long Hair Clan will bring a pipe as back up.) Tobacco, matches etc.

Ladies: You should all have smudging bowls, Feathers, sage, and matches. (I am bringing candle dishes for anyone who does not have a smudging bowl - if you wish to create one from them; Feel free. It DOES get hot, so you will need to craft some sort of handle.)

IF ANYONE HAS FRESH UNSHUCKED CORN, that would be awesome. I have last years ears that were left over but I'd rather and I'm sure Shelia Durham Pretty Bird would rather have fresh.

ALSO: Ladies, please be prepared to join us in the sacred Circle. The Ceremonies are harder when there are only a handful of us. And yes, we will practice under Pretty Bird and Little Deer's guidance. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BRING A SKIRT OR SOMETHING TO COVER YOUR HIPS. (See me about regalia. We might be able to throw something together)

If you plan to attend council meetings you should all have your talking sticks. (My Head Warrior in Training enthusiastically crafted his Talking Stick during our meeting at our Green Corn Gathering earlier this month. (It looks Awesome)). I will have supplies for anyone who needs to craft one. However, you will have to find your own stick. There are plenty on the walking trail around the campground, I'm sure you will find one that suits.

If you have a handbook, you should probably bring it in the event of any questions on protocol or implements. If you do not have one, please see me to fill out an order form.

If anyone out there has a good camera and would like to volunteer to take pictures for the website that would be awesome. Especially pictures of our young ones and Elders.

BUT REMEMBER: NO CAMERAS DURING THE CEREMONIES OR THEY WILL BE CONFINSCATED. CELL PHONES SHOULD BE LEFT IN CARS OR CAMPERS.

There is a fishing pond. Our young ones will be demonstrating their Blue Feather Skills and receive their blue Feathers. (volunteers needed to help make the beaded strings for their accomplishments). We will have a Blue Feather Meeting After council meetings are finished.

Need Volunteer to add names (if any) to the roll book.

Note: The temperatures here this week are in the 90's. I would suggest keeping up with the weather and bringing both cool weather and hot weather clothing. We will try to make sure there is plenty of drinking water. Also, the protocols call for no exposed shoulders; however, if the temperatures continue as they are I am sure Chief, Mother Moon Spirit and Pretty Bird will be ok with not dealing with overheated tribal members. Absolutely NO tummies and NO cleavage. NO SHORT SHORTS.. must come to the knee or longer. (the only exception will be if the pool remains open)

STAY TUNED FOR MORE REMINDERS... 'cause you know, I can't do it all at once.
